FAQs: ILUMA YOGA

What's the vibe at Iluma Yoga?

Iluma Yoga is a hidden two-floored oasis in a Scandinavian city.

We are a cosy bunch of teachers here at Iluma and we firmly believe yoga is for anyone and every-body.

We welcome people from all walks of life with open arms to first time yogis, to the seasoned practitioner.

Our space is warm, casual and professional. If you have any questions or aren't sure about something, don't be shy to speak to us! Please approach a member of staff and we'd love to help you.

A space for the community, give your fellow neighbour practising next to you a smile and ask them how they are doing.

We are here to gather, together.

What are your COVID-19 protocols?

  • There are currently no restrictions in place.

  • Do not come to class if you have COVID symptoms.

  • Even if you do not have COVID but have symptoms of a cough/common cold/flu, we must stress that you will be asked to leave. It's much better for you to stay at home to rest, instead of over-exerting yourself and causing unneeded panic amongst other students.

  • Please email info@ilumayoga AND faye@ilumayoga.com if you have tested positive and recently visited our studio.

IF COVID RESTRICTIONS ARE IN PLACE: -

Checking in:

  • You must show up between 5 - 15 minutes before your booked class (If you arrive with less than 5 minutes until the class starts, you may lose your place to someone waiting on the waitlist.)

  • The door will be shut until the class before has finished, please wait patiently in the stairwell keeping distance, or wait in the courtyard if it becomes crowded.

  • Please use hand-sanitiser provided in the stairwell before touching the door and entering.

  • Allow us to check you in, inform whoever is at the desk of your arrival.

Preparation for class:

  • Come as readily changed for practice as you can to avoid spending too much time in the changing room.

  • We do not have any mats lend to you for health and safety reasons, please make sure to bring your own.

  • But in case of emergency, we do have a couple of emergency mats that can used at your own risk and to be sprayed down by you post-practice.

  • Hand-sanitise your hands again before entering the shala.

In class:

  • No personal belongings in the shala apart from a water bottle. Please leave everything in the changing room.

  • Props:

    • Only blocks may be used in the dynamic style classes and must be sprayed after use.

    • Bolsters and blankets may only be used for Yin & Pre/Post natal.

THANK YOU!

I'm completely new to yoga, can I join in?

Of course you can!

'But I'm just not good at it' , 'I'm not flexible enough'... This is what we all said before we started. Olympic athletes, doctors, fine artists, musicians, they all had to start from somewhere to get to where they ended up. Same goes for yogis!

Be sure to tell the teacher that you are completely new, so they have their eye on you to help you out when needed.

Note that there are BEGINNER'S YOGA classes on Saturday mornings.

If you are unsure what to go to but are ready to move and challenge yourself, we would suggest going to a level 1-2 Vinyasa class. Each teacher will have a different way of teaching and their levels will differ slightly, so we strongly suggest you try 3 different teachers Vinyasa class so you can have a play and see who suits you best for the beginning of your journey. When you feel ready to turn up the heat, try a level 2-3 class.

Once you feel you understand the general structure of a class and comfortable on your mat, come and play with a Rocke class or Ashtanga. Be prepared for new challenges and more intensity!

Beginners are welcome to all Yin classes. If you want to relax, dive into stillness whilst stretching the physical body. On the outside this may seem like the 'easiest' looking class, but mentally it can be quite challenging holding positions for minutes at a time. We suggest using as many props as you need for a delicious experience.

How do I prepare for a class?

  • Wear comfortable clothes.

  • If you sweat a lot, bring a towel

  • Please bring a refillable bottle full of water to keep hydrated, but we also serve water and tea.

  • Some people like to bring their own blanket/shawl for the final pose Savasana to wrap up and get cosy.

  • If coming to a Yin class, we suggest wearing loose clothes and bringing enough to keep warm such as socks.

  • Bring an open mind and sense of adventure!

I'm pregnant, what can I go to?

New yogis:

Some doctors say start up yoga when you become pregnant, but most would say to not try new things you didn't do before you were pregnant. If you are pregnant and completely new to yoga, we would suggest going to our specifically tailored prenatal yoga courses or mom & baby sessions.

Pregnant students with a yoga practice:

You can practice as usual, just make sure to adjust your practice and learn the variations for pregnant bodies. If you are unsure, please ask your teacher.

I have an injury, should I come?

Please check with a medical profession about your specific injury.

We cannot advise you on whether you should come to yoga or not as your health and safety is at your own risk. If you know your body and injury well enough and are mindful in class, this is up to you if you want to partake in practice.

What is the Kula program?

  • This is for people who want to try yoga but cannot access it due to the price and their economic position. You can apply yourself or you can nominate a person/people. A portion of the DKK 30 late fees goes to support this program. We are also working with organisations around the city offering yoga for those who cannot access it for a multitude of reasons. If you have an organisation in mind please feel free to nominate them too.

  • Email the owner personally to apply: faye@ilumayoga.com

  • Your application is private and only the studio owner will have knowledge of applicants.

Can I pause my membership?

  • You can pause your monthly membership for a fee. Under 1 month (30 days) is 50kr, and over 1 month is 100kr. Please email faye@ilumayoga.com to pause.

How do I purchase/redeem a gift card?
