200 HOUR YOGA
TEACHER TRAINING

COPENHAGEN

SRI LANKA

OVERVIEW

Set across two vibrant locations — Iluma Yoga Studio in Copenhagen and the lush landscapes of Sri Lanka — this transformative Ashtanga Vinyasa journey is crafted to deepen your connection to the heart of yoga. You’ll expand your personal practice while gaining the tools, insight, and confidence to step into your power as a skilled and inspiring teacher.

We honour the deep roots of Aṣṭāṅga yoga while integrating the flow and freedom of the creative approach of Vinyāsa. You’ll cultivate a strong foundation in both traditional practices and contemporary teachings, allowing you to lead with confidence, creativity and authenticity. This training is about more than just mastering asanas—it's about discovering your unique voice as a teacher and learning how to create a meaningful, holistic experience for your students. Throughout our time together, you will sharpen your teaching skills, explore the art of space-holding, and cultivate a deeper understanding of the body, mind, and spirit connection.

At the heart of this training is community. Together, we will form a supportive Sangha, where connection, trust, and the power of shared practice will fuel your growth as a teacher. We are here to help you find your voice, tap into your potential, and step into your role as a teacher who inspires and uplifts others.

What you bring to the table is your most powerful tool. As we explore this journey together, we invite you to embrace your individuality, tap into your creativity, and develop a teaching style that is uniquely yours. This is more than a training—it’s the beginning of your path as a teacher and a lifelong learner.

We can’t wait to welcome you into this transformative experience.

THE PRACTICE

ART OF PRACTICE

The Physical

Meditation, Asana, Pranayama, Mudra, Mantra, Chanting, Kriya

The heart of the training begins each day at sunrise with grounding practices in meditation, pranayama, and mantra — followed by a dynamic, two-hour asana journey in either Ashtanga or creative Vinyasa, designed to challenge, energize, and expand you.

The Technical

Alignment, Adjustment, Technique, Posture clinics, Sequencing, Demo, Rhythm

Explore posture clinics, where we break down alignment, variations, and the technical foundations of asana. Build confidence in offering safe, supportive adjustments, and experiment with sequencing and class flow through mini-practicum group work.

DEPTH: PHILOSOPHY

DEPTH: ANATOMY

The Body

Biomechanics, Physical Anatomy, Energetics

In-depth, hands-on lectures understanding the biomechanics of the body. The focus will be on creating deep knowledge of the happenings in the body during movements, injuries and the stresses of life. We will be using our group to show what happens on real people with real bodies, feeling physically into the teachings as well as theoretically. We also dive into the intricate area of energy: prana, chakras, nadis and bandhas.

The Self & Ethics

Yoga Philosophy, Ethics, Traditional Texts to Modern Works of the Mind

Rooted in Yogic Philosophy, we explore ancient wisdom through a modern lens. We dive into Patanjali’s eight-fold path, focusing on how to apply its teachings in everyday life. Through study of the Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga Sutras, we reflect on how these texts can support our personal growth and practice.

We also journey into the stories of deities—who is Shiva? What does Ganesh represent for us today? Exploring yogic ethics, we look at what it truly means to be a safe, supportive teacher. This includes addressing spiritual bypassing, cultural appropriation, and how to decolonise your practice.

ART OF TEACHING

PRACTICUM

The Work

Teaching, Video feedbacks, Exams, Shaking off the Nerves

From day one, you’ll begin using your voice—starting with simple steps like leading an opening AUM or guiding a Sun Salutation, gradually building up to teaching a full class. It’s natural to feel nervous standing in front of others, but every teacher has to start somewhere.

To complete the training, you’ll need to pass a two-hour written exam and teach a final class.

The Space Holder

Methodology, Empowerment, Becoming the Wordsmith, Space Holding

What sets us apart? We focus on nurturing your growth as a confident, authentic teacher. You'll step into leadership, find your voice, and learn to hold space with presence. Expect workshops on creative language and class design — plus practical insights into yoga as a business.

'ILUMA': To illuminate -

a. To supply or brighten with light

b. To make luminous or shining

c. An interpretation that removes obstacles to understanding.

From the Latin illuminationem, meaning "to throw into light," Iluma is a space where our community gathers with genuine purpose to explore the self through the path of Yoga. More than a studio, Iluma is a home—a soul-rooted family that recognizes the deep need for light and clarity in our often overwhelming modern lives.

OUR VISION

Is to be the conduit for awakening high consciousness, by illuminating Yoga through physical, intentional & spiritual practice.

OUR MISSION

  • to weave together the power of ritual and practice

  • to inspire spiritual growth for our community

  • to gather with luminous intention

  • to uphold equality and practice ways of intentionally making space, especially for marginalised stories and bodies.

Read more about our philosophy and see more pictures here.

BEDROOMS

Each room has twin or triple single beds, featuring minimalistic interior design to showcase the elegance of local craftsmanship. All bedrooms have beautiful handmade closets and furniture, with cosy nooks and en-suite bathrooms.

YOGA SHALA

nature in the open and airy Yoga Shala, providing an inspiring and unforgettable healing space for both sunrise and sunset sessions, and all the in-between lectures. The shala is fully equipped with yoga mats, props & essentials, and a small kitchenette providing tea & an honesty-box system for extra snacks.

FOOD

We know that good food is essential for a fulfilling training experience, the plant-based food over the 10 days will be a nutritious and vibrant menu aimed at supporting your yoga practices. The food will be a mix of familiar healthy 'western' favourites and Sri Lankan-inspired dishes made with the freshest local ingredients. We understand that everyone has different dietary needs, so we're happy to accommodate any special requests.

THE REQUIREMENTS

You will be required:

  • To have an asana practice preferably three times a week to build up your stamina & strength. This is primarily a Vinyasa (through Ashtanga) training, so it is good for you to grasp the foundation of a yang practice.

  • It would be beneficial for you to attend some led Ashtanga classes and get familiar with the primary sequence (you can google the print out sheet for this).

  • Students will be asked to document the last 20 classes taken leading up to the training. Documenting the date, style of class and getting the teacher to sign. Please try a variety of styles, not solely vinyasa.

  • We would love for you to then breakdown the favourite three vinyasa classes: what you enjoyed about the class, the type of language the teacher used, music, details of breathwork/meditation in the class, the atmosphere created. Why did you love it? How were you inspired?

  • Start a journal before the training documenting the beginning of this journey.

Reading List

We have two reading lists which will be shared upon receiving a deposit. Make sure to read the essential list, as we will be discussing them in lectures. Bringing them physically or as an e-book is required to refer to in class. The second list is not essential, but these are incredible works of art, either for language or to melt the mind with wisdom. We highly recommend reading these, perhaps bringing them to read on the beach.

Attitude

  • Bring an open-minded, positive attitude! Our community is created through authenticity and individuality to make us whole. Take what you need from this course, and be open to learn.
