Coming in hot from San Francisco, home of Rocket Yoga, prepare for take-off with
Steve Pyke of ASTA YOGA STUDIO.

Facilitator
Steve Pyka (USA)
Steve’s first yoga class was in 2004 in his bedroom. He volunteered to be a student for a teacher in training, and while it was a challenging, profusely sweaty and entirely new experience, it didn’t spark an interest in taking up the practice. Several years later, while tending to his regular practice of spending weekends in bars, Steve met René, an instructor at It’s Yoga in San Francisco, Larry Schultz’s storied yoga school on Folsom Street. The first Rocket class Steve took was in a room with over 100 people who were all flying, and he left feeling, “This feels so familiar. I want more.” He discovered soon after the first yoga class he ever took in his bedroom was from a student of Larry’s, and now, Larry was Steve’s teacher.

In 2009, Steve and René opened up AstaYoga in San Francisco, and Larry passed the torch. Larry did his last teacher trainings ever in 2011 at Asta, and Steve took them and began teaching immediately. Since 2011, Steve has taught thousands of classes and dozens of trainings in San Francisco and abroad, cultivating an expanding family of practitioners globally. Steve’s philosophy of teaching is that he’s not teaching, but facilitating an experience that allows for a profound and clear connection with one’s own internal guidance. Steve’s classes and trainings are rooted in simplicity, practicality, enjoyment and good humor, the same qualities that characterize the Rocket practice that he shares and keeps alive daily in the city where it all began.
